About Me

Andrea Daykin, C.Psychol, AFBPsS – Independent, private psychologist and psychotherapist specialising in Cognitive Analytic Therapy.

You Deserve to Feel Great. I’m Here to Help.

I offer a confidential, non-judgemental and compassionate service that aims to be responsive to meeting your needs.

My Background

I am dual qualified as both a Practitioner Psychologist and CAT Psychotherapist.

As a Practitioner Psychologist I am registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).  I am also registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) as a Chartered Forensic Psychologist, and an Associate Fellow (AFBPsS).  As a psychologist working in the NHS, and as a CAT psychotherapist in private practice I have gained extensive experience of working with adults with a range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, and work related stress. I have worked in a range of settings and with adults from all walks of life.

I have 20 years’ experience of working in the NHS. Prior to leaving the NHS I held senior roles as Clinical Lead and Interim Psychology Department Lead which gave me the experience of developing services, as well as leading and working with teams of different professionals. In 2020 I left the NHS to set up in full time private practice. I wanted to specialise in providing CAT therapy to adults in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and surrounding areas, so that I could reach people who may not be able to access NHS therapy services because of long waiting lists; family/ working circumstances making it difficult to access therapy outside of working hours, and CAT not being a therapy of choice.

I have used CAT in my clinical practice for a number of years and I feel passionate about CAT as a talking therapy. I also value the benefits of other therapeutic approaches and as I have received training in approaches such as ACT, CFT and DBT, I can integrate certain aspects of these into therapy so that what I offer is bespoke and flexible to your needs.

Before training as a psychologist, I worked in local government, industry, the voluntary sector and higher education.  Working in these settings provided me with valuable life experience before I left full time employment to start university as a mature student. These life experiences have given me direct experience of a world outside of psychology and psychotherapy which I feel is important when working with adults who are experiencing difficulties.
